Way back in 1997, my big sis got married. And I was the maid of honor, naturally. (:
And as the maid of honor, I was to give a speech @ the reception.

I'm not a good speaker. And I'm not good in front of crowds.
Especially when all the attention is on me.
BUT, I am pretty good at writing.
Well, I enjoy writing anyways.

After a few days, of sitting on my couch. Alone. With some wine.
And memories flooding my mind.
I came up with this...

To Bridget:
Since we were little, we always talked about getting married & what our weddings would be like. We talked about what our dresses would look like, who would be invited, & what kind of man we would marry. And how many times did we play that game *MASH*?! You know, where you write down three choices of men, flowers, wedding colors, & anything else we could think of. Well, this time you must have cheated, because you got everything you ever wanted.
The dress you're wearing is far more beautiful than imagined, the people surrounding you tonight are far more special that expected, & the man you married is more of a man than you could ever dream of.
I was so proud to stand by your side when you said "I do." But I never would have imagined how hard it would be to give you up. As my big sister, you've always been obligated to teach me right from wrong; or at least how to get away with the wrong! Unfortunately, you weren't too successful with that! But luckily for me, you have taught me one of the most important things in life... finding true love and believing in it. I hope to marry a man so perfect for me as Jeremiah is so perfect for you.

And Jeremiah:
I think all I need to say to you is thank you for giving my sister everything she ever wanted, thank you for loving her the way she deserves to be loved, & thank you for respecting her.

I love you both with all my heart.

white frames

When the hubbs & I got married, we had 2 different tastes in photo frames.
He liked dark brown, & I liked black.
So, naturally, we had a house full of un-matched frames.

I finally came up with a solution.
Instead of spending more money on matching frames, I'll force them to match!

I headed to home depot where I picked up these guys:

Here's what our little hallway looked like before....

I removed the pictures, backs, & glass from the frames.
I laid out a palette of newspaper so I wouldn't get the concrete painted. {i still managed to get a little paint on it. oops}

I found 2 more frames @ Goodwill the other day.
They were .99 cents each!!

I sprayed the frames with one coat of primer & let them dry for about 15 minutes.

Then, I sprayed each frame with the flat white spray paint.

Did 2 coats on them, letting dry for 20 minutes in between coats.

surgery day

Em did SO good with her surgery saturday.
we were up bright & early that morning - had to be @ the hospital @ 6:00am!

we hung out in pre-op for an hour & half.
watched boy meets world & scooby doo

just before they took her back, things got a little rough.
em realized she hadn't eaten or drank anything since the night before.
shucks.
but it only lasted a few minutes.
the nurses took her back.
not even ten minutes later, the doc came to get us.
I didn't even get to finish my coffee!

things went smooth.
and we were headed home an hour later.
she was already runnin around.
talking more.
happier. (:

the best friends came over for the day.
Lilly brought Em a get well soon baby. ♥

she loved it.

Who hates manuals?

I DO I DO!

For the longest time, I kept all of our manuals, recipets, & warranties in this

I mean I love my Tiffany bag and all, but everytime I needed a manual, I was forced to go through the entire bag to find it.

Plus, it was ruining the bag!

The time finally came for a different approach.

I headed to Wal-Mart, and found this:

Perfect. OK. Let's start organizing.

I did the best I could, but with different sized manuals, and extras I needed to keep with them, I ran out of room!

It looked like it was going to explode.

So, I went & got these expanding files.

Took the kiddos papers out, & organized all the manuals & receipts in 3 different expanding files!

OK, now I need something to put the kiddos school papers in.

I found these standing file folders from Target as well.

{$12.99 each}

I bought 2. One for each babe.

There's a section for

school work
artwork
important documents
doctor papers
& misc

All of our files are stored in the linen closet, for now.

They just sit there.

And it bugs the heck out of me.

Yup, it was inevitable.

I had a feeling we wouldn't get lucky with Em.

She needs tubes.

I know it's not a big deal.

It's actually really normal these days.

But, my last experience wasn't the best.

Boo got tubes put in his ears when he was about 9 months.

And they didn't work.

He still got ear infections.

So, we went back in, had those removed, & new ones put in.

He also had his adenoids removed, and his tongue clipped.

wow. I get exhausted just thinking about it.

So, we go back in to find out when she will have surgery.

Wish us luck.

Lots of prayers it goes smoothly.

My entire house has been in need of a make over.
Unfortunately we are renting at the moment, so painting is not an option.
The best thing I can do is organize.
Crazy how a little organizing can make a difference!

Now...where to start?!
duh....where everyone starts....at the front door.

So, let's organize this coat closet.
It went from being barely opened except to grab a jacket, to being opened everytime I needed to take some photos!

For the space reason, we kept our vacuum in the dining room.

But now that I have made room, it has its own hiding place.

I found this bin @ Wal-Mart.

Here is where I keep everyone's hats, gloves, scarves, any wintery stuff out of the way.

We live in Texas after all.

I use to keep the camera hanging from one of the dining room chairs. There reallt wasn't a "place" for it.
Until I grabbed the "over the door" hooks from the main bathroom, and tossed it over the coat closet door.
Now, we keep the camera, Em's travel bag, & any other random item that needs to be hung in here.

The Hubbs "accidentley" broke our trash can in the kitchen.

This actually worked out pretty perfect.

I was desperate to find some kind of organizer to support my obsession with buying wrapping paper on clearance.

All it needed was a little cleaning & love...and voila!

P.S. This year was my best year thus far: I found a pack of 4 rolls of wrapping paper for .89 cents!!

{and they were designs I actually liked!}

{organizing} book shelves

We love movies.
And tv series.
It seems as if our movie library never stops growing.
This makes the Hubbs very happy.

After we got married, we bought a book shelf from Target.
It filled up quick!
But, as life has it, we weren't {well, I wasn't} willing to shell out another 89 bucks for another.
It had to wait.

It began to overfill.
And then really just looked like a disaster.
It droves me nuts.

I went to Target to do my regular "walk up & down each aisle" time.
This is done when I am extremely bored, or just wanna buy something new.

So, as we strolled into the furniture aisle, I see our book shelf's twin. ON SALE.
(: Yup, can't pass this up.
It was on sale for 65 dollars. WOOT!

I grabbed it.
well, I actually had quite a rough time putting the humongous box into my cart
I was SO excited.

I put it all together, as I did the first one.

It was time to organize it. {best part}
There's a section of halloween movies, a section for christmas movies, blu rays, kids movies, concerts on dvd, & 2 shelves dedicated specially for tv series.

On the top, there are my 2 favorite pictures of the babes, a digital picture frame, our unity sand thingy from the wedding, & an hour glass I got from TJMaxx for $5. {one of my fav TJ finds.}

I surprised the Hubbs with it when he got home from work.
He was so happy!
I love that he gets happy over things like that.

Yes, those are pretty much the only books we own. {not including books for the kiddos}
We're not much on reading.
Our library consists of books on the phillies, lakers, andy warhol, hurricane katrina, september 11, the kiddos picture bible, photo albums, personal photo books, a few great reads.

P.S. As I was putting the second book shelf together, I realized I had made 2 mistakes on the first. But, they were going to be side by side, so I had to do the same to the second.

So I had an ah-ha moment.

I bought a new car today {WOOT!}, and as I was cleaning it out, I saw I had forgotten to take a couple bags to my local thrift store.
It was mostly old clothes of mine.
A few of Boo's things, & some of Em's.

Their were 2 of Em's baby blankets in the bag.
They had no stains, no rips. They were in perfect condition.

AH-HA! I had a great idea...
these can go to a church nursery! duh.
And not just any church; the church we visit often just down the road.
The Hubbs works with the assistant pastor @ the car lot, so I just left them their for him to take.
Done!

This is my new plan.
Where better to donate than a church?!
And if they don't need something, Lord knows they know someone who will need it.

So, if you have a few things that need to be donated, and is sick of taking it to your local thrift shop, where they just end up sitting in the back of a store for months, take them to a local church!

What kid doesn't have a dream dessert??

Boo had been talking about some dessert he came up with for a while, & I thought it would only be right to make it for him. {made sure it was a Saturday night, hence all the sugar}

Ingredients:
3 scoops vanilla ice cream
chocolate syrup to taste
red sprinkles to taste
1/2 bag m&ms
1/2 bag gummy bears
2 maraschino cherries

fresh out the bath.

Ended up making a Brady Sundae Sunday night as well (:

hash brown casserole {recipe}

This was the VERY first casserole I ever made.
Years ago, during my single mama days, I'd make this for Boo & I.
It was so easy, and tasted so good.

We sometimes ate it by itself, and maybe a couple times, with a meal.

The hubbs loves it too, do I made ir for him last night {as a side}.

{Please keep in mind that there are many ways to make a hash brown casserole. The following recipe is my own}.

Prep:
pre-heat oven @ 350 degrees.
9x13 baking dish
large mixing bowl

Ingredients:
3/4 bag frozen hash browns
4 tbsp butter {unsalted}
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 can cream of chicken soup
2 cups sour cream
1-2 cups crushed corn flakes {however much your heart desires}
1/4 cup milk
1 dab onion powder {*this is the newest addition to the recipe. the hubbs didn't like it, I did}
salt & pepper to taste

Directions:
In your large mixing bowl, mix together hash browns, sour cream, milk, cream of chicken, 1/2 cup cheese, onion powder {if desired}, salt, & pepper.

Spray baking dish with cooking spray, or rub butter on the bottom
{whichever method you prefer}

Pour the mixture into the baking dish, spreading out, evenly

Sprinkle the rest of your cheese on top, evenly

melt your butter in a small microwavable mixing bowl
{I use a pyrex measuring cup}
Once all the butter is melted, put the crushed corn flakes in and mix well
{I use my hands}

Sprinkle your buetter corn flakes over the casserole mixture, evenly

I sprinkled a little more cheese on top
{we heart cheese}

cover with foil

bake for 60 minutes

serve as entree' or as a side dish.

ENJOY!

This morning was just like any other morning.

I got up.
Checked on the kids.
Turned Boo's TV on to wake him up.
Jumped in the shower.
Got out of the shower.
Moved Boo from his bed to the living room.

Em was a little cranky last night, so she ended up in the playpen, in the living room {I cannot wait til they have their own rooms}

Boo & I walked over to see if Em was still asleep.

I stood there, watching him watch her.
So sweet.

Then, he says, "Emma's beautiful today, isn't she."

My heart melted. {Which is becoming more and more frequent as my kids get older}
I looked at him, with a huge smile on my face & said "yes, she is."
I gave him a hug. And went on with the morning. ♥

It's moments like these that reassure me that I'm doing something right. And my kids really will be OK in the end. They have each other.

There was a woman named Mary.
I didn't know her well.
I didn't really know her at all.
But her daughter is my best friend.
And so that makes Mary special.

Mary passed away last week.
She was sick.
It wasn't sudden, but the heart ache was.

I went to visit Mary after her daughter flew her out here from Florida.
To take care of her.
{one more reason I am proud to call her my best friend}
She was sick, but there was hope.
She talked to me.
Just a little bit.
Sitting in that hospital room.
Meeting her for the first time.
She said,
"I'll kill you if you hurt Aley."
As blunt & awkward as it was, I loved her for that.

It wasn't long after, that Mary went to stay with her daughter.
Stressful days, & sleepless nights, Aley was doing the best she could.
She gave Mary what no one else could.
A warm home, family surroundings, & good old hard love.

Mary got better.
Then got worse.
Sitting at the hospital for days,
Aley was getting weak.
And I wasn't present.

After some harsh honesty & guilt,
I realized I wasn't doing my job.
I was the best friend.
Why wasn't I with her?
I went straight to the hospital.
Mary was asleep.
She was in a deep sleep.

As I sat there
listening
watching
& feeling
In comes the sadness.
That raw emotion you only feel in those Godly moments.

2 grown men, almost brought to their knees.
A big sister comforting, trying to hold onto her own sadness.
Trying not to let it get out.

As I was sitting in that hospital chair,
I saw these 3 people,
standing over their mother.
Not knowing what the next moment will bring.

They were once kids.
Innocent little kids.
And for a moment, they were those kids again.
Lost.
Needing their mom.
Needing her strength.
It's been 10 years since I last felt those feelings myself.
And the craziest thing is, that happens every single day to people.

I'm sorry for those who have lost someone close.
Or watched someone lose someone close.
It sucks.
And life sucks for a long while after.
Thank goodness for those people we have in our lives to get us through it.

Aley took Mary home yesterday.
And tomorrow will be the hardest day those 3 kids will have.
May God give you strength.
And as hard as it is to accept right now, Mary will be with you everyday. All day.
She will be there whenever you need her.

I will be picking Aley up from the airport when she gets back.
I will be the first person to welcome her.
I hope I do good.
I hope I'm the best friend she needs.

I catch myself wondering what other people think about me, my parenting, when I'm in public.

Like at a restaurant.
Em won't sit still, and I've asked her a hundred times to sit on her bottom.
--first thought: I wonder if people respect me more because I say bottom, & not butt.
{I hate hearing a child say butt}

After asking her 72 times to sit down, I get firm, & give a little spank.
--second thought: do people still believe in spanking? {I DO}
And the people who don't, I wonder if they think I'm a bad person for "hitting" my child.

Another scenario...
Wal-Mart. The toy aisle.
Brady always insists on going to the toy aisle. Even when I tell him he can't have any toys. He still wants to look.
Well...we know how this ends.
A whine, or at least a pout because he can't have a toy.
So, I tell him, "Christmas was just here a month ago. AND you don't play with any toys I buy you."
--my first thought: wonder how many other parents have said this before.
--my second thought: I wonder if the person behind me thinks I'm a good mom for saying no, or a bad for saying no.

Anywho...I guess this is completely normal.
Parents, doubting themselves.
Only because we want to be the BEST parent we can.
We want to be stern, but fair.
We want to set the BEST example for our children.

I guess when it comes to that, doubting, & over thinking ourselves, just comes with the job.

I need to remember this.
We all do.
Because I'm sure I'm not the only parent in the world that wonders what strangers think.

I have to remember, they don't know me, or my children.
And I am a good parent.
My mom says so.
That's what matters. (:

I love to organize.
I love to be organized.
I have stayed away from Pinterest for awhile.
Because, honestly, it started to get a little crazy.
Everyone was finding out about it, and it's magic.
It got to where I was seeing the same things over & over.
And then it got to where I was seeing too many things that I had no interest in.
So, I figured I'd let the newbies have a little fun with it.
And let it die down.

Flipping through my Pinterest boards, I was reunited with my organize board.
I decided I'm going to jump on the band wagon, and do a little de-cluttering.
I'm going to clean & organize one space @ a time.

I actually do this, often.
But now that I have Pinterest, I've gotten SO many more ideas on how to organize & make everything look a little nicer.

I will post a few before & afters.
Show you a few of my own ideas I've come up with.

celeb siting birthday

So about two & a half years ago, we went to this awesome restaurant in Shreveport, LA {about an hour from home} to celebrate the Hubbs' birthday. {he wasn't my hubbs then, he wasn't even my boyfriend yet!}
Anywho, we went to this place called Superior.

--If you're ever in Shreveport, GO. The food is pretty good. BUT, the margaritas are amazing {you'll only need one}
AND the atmosphere is my favorite part.

So, there was a group of us. Maybe 10 or so.
All talking and drinking our margs.
Chris' mom was in town, and she was telling us about this new show called "True Blood."
I had heard of it, but never watched it.

About 10 minutes later, A friend of ours looked over & saw Alexander Skarsgård.
ERIC FROM TRUE BLOOD! And sitting with him....Kate Bosworth!

Now, this place we were at is known for celebrity sitings.
Shreveport also had become popular for movies being made there, such as Mr. Brooks. {love}
So, I grabbed the camera and got some pics.
Looks a little stalkerish, I know.
You would have done it too!

Anywho...one of the people with us had their son. He's too cute for words.

So, of course, we used him as bait. (:

Aaaand later, we built of some courage to just go say hi.

Once it finally came out, the Hubbs & I couldn't wait to watch it!

Too bad we don't know which parts were actually filmed in Shreveport; but it was still cool to watch a movie with people in it that we met, while they were filming it!

Looking back, I think most kids got picked one once or twice in their life.
Kids are mean.
It's just how it is.
But when it's happening to you, you feel so alone.
Maybe it's just one of those life lessons we are given.
And we either take that lesson and run with it, or let it define who we are.
The lesson I was given in 6th grade is something I do not wish on any child.
But it happened to me. And I ran with it.

We moved to a different neighborhood.
So this meant going to a different school for my last year of elementary school.
No big deal.
I knew lots of kids that went to my new school.
My best friend was one of them.
Just days into the new school year, it began.
I got picked on by one person.
One girl.
We rode the same bus.
She made me sit up front.
She was bossy to everyone, but hurtful to me.
I couldn't understand why.
In my old school, I was popular.
Everyone loved me!
No one had ever picked on me.

After a few months, I finally figured it out.
She was jealous.
I had come into "her territory" and stolen her friend. {which was my best friend}
Even though I knew the things she was doing & saying were out of jealousy, it still hurt. A lot.
I cried. Everyday.
After that year, I made a promise to myself that I would never let anyone treat me that way ever again.

{15 years later... that promise still hasn't been broken}

Out of the corner of my eye, I see some papers.

Papers from a copier.

They looked familiar.

My lawyer shows it to me.

It was my journal.

I felt my face turn bright red.

Now this journal wasn't a normal journal.

It was just something I had started the year before.

Something I wanted to leave for my kids when they were adults.

It included memories I had, & lessons I learned.

There wasn't much in it, but it was enough.

I had left a couple boxes at his house, and he apparently went through them, looking for something.

All I could think was, "is this legal?!"

YUP--as long as it was at his house, it was his property.

After a long afternoon of lies, tears, & disappointments, the temporary orders were joint custody.

Months went by.

I got my own apartment.

Times were tough.

Getting along with him was non-existent.

He somehow kept manipulating me into thinking it was MY fault.

Man, it's amazing how one persons words can influence you.

Luckily, I had found a great job at the auto auction.

I had made some good, reliable friends.

I visited home, a lot.

Drove, flew, whatever I could to get back to my roots.

To get back to where I felt warm & loved.

At one point, I got a tattoo.

On my left wrist.

Reminding me, every time I look at it, that my heart is mine.

Only I have the power to break it.

{I'll post a pic soon}

After almost 10 months of court dates, lawyer meetings, & an unsuccessful mediation, we finally got the final judgement and custody settlement.

Joint custody.

I don't have many regrets in my life.

But one that I do have, is getting back with him.

YES, I did.

I know, your jaw is probably touching the ground right now.

And trust me, I know exactly what you're thinking.

But I did.

And of course, it didn't work.

But I do believe, somewhere in my heart, I got back with him because I needed closure.

Being able to talk to him, and get {some} answers on why he did & said what he did, helped me.

And I got the chance to show him what it did to me.

Times got better.

Had some really great friends.

Moved around a couple times.

{I'm not one to stay in one spot for long}

I was happy.

I was single.

I was independent & loved it.

And had the most amazing person as my son.

The times we spent together, I made sure he had everything he ever wanted.

He was happy.

And in return,

he did the same for me.

He gave me everything I ever wanted. And more.

He taught me real love.

He taught me patience.

He taught me courage.

He taught me how to laugh. A real laugh.

Being a single mom was hard.

4 years worth of hard-ness.

But I did it.

And so many other single parents do it.

Boo & I formed a bond that no one can break.

I am thankful, & lucky to have been a single parent.

I know that if it hadn't happened exactly how it happened,

Boo & I wouldn't be as close.

We would take each other more for granted.

I love his love.

And if that's all I have, then my world is not without.

I have to include, that Boo's father is one of the best father's I know.

He does everything for that little boy.

And Boo idolizes him.

Even though him & I have gone through some rough times, I couldn't have asked for a better father for my son.

Since Boo started kindergarten this past fall, his dad's & my relationship has been great.

It's the relationship I've been praying for for 4 years.

We are finally on the same page.

It took so long, but it's here.

And I don't take that for granted either.

In July of 2010, I got married.

It was difficult at first....having someone come into our world.

It took time.

And it's work everyday, just like any other relationship.

But I make sure, everyday, that Boo's & my relationship is as strong as it was when it was just me & Boo♥

It was worth every single trying moment.

I would do it all over again, if I had to.

{part one}

I shut the door.
And locked it.
For some reason tears just wouldn't stop rolling out of my eyes.
I couldn't read any of the words that were typed on the paper.

I took a breath.
Wiped my faced.
And started reading.

Lots of big words.
Information that did not make any sense to me.
5 or 6 pages stapled together.
I see lawyers names.
My name.
My sons name.
And a court date.

Then, he is trying to come in.
{you know, to help my with me with moving my last piece of furniture}
I don't let him in yet.
I shout "What the hell is this?!"
He pretends to not understand what I'm talking about.
I let him in.
Throw the papers in his face.
He tries to calm me down.

The rest of that day is a blur.
I remember him, telling me it was procedure and everything was going to be fine.
The reason for these papers was to be sure I wouldn't move our son to Missouri.

It was a Friday.
And the court date was the following Thursday.

I remember going to his house & him reassuring me that the papers were standard papers.
He told me I didn't need to get a lawyer.
He even had the nerve to tell me I didn't even have to show up to court.

I might have only been 21, but I wasn't stupid.
I said "OK" and left.

I remember calling my dad.
But I don't remember what was said.

The next thing I know, my dad calls back with a lawyers name & address.
And that he was driving down in just a few days.
"Hold on Chrissy" is what he told me.

I held on.
For dear life.

Thursday came around.
This was the first time I experienced anxiety.
{and there was a lot more where that came from}

As I sat there outside the court room, talking to my dad and my lawyer,
I remember his face.
As he turned the corner, and saw me there with my dad on one side & my lawyer on the other.
His face turned white.
I had no thoughts. No feelings. Just numb.
Because I had learned, quickly, how serious this really was.

My dad said 3 words that will be forever embedded in my mind.... "Shame on you."

About an hour later, my lawyer came back from talking to the judge.
She told me he had told his lawyer that I was using meth.
And that I was to talk across the street to the jail, where they would drug test me.
{This was the first of many heartbreaks to come that day}

A couple hours later, the test came back & it was our turn to go in front of the judge.
Negative results. {duh}
Moving on.
This too was also a blur.
{This is where I finally understood why people suppress certain memories}

I remember....
crying a lot.
hearing his lawyer asking me crazy, confusing questions.
watching him on the stand talk
and say lies after lies after lies
things that I would have never imagined someone I cared about say
Things like I was gay.
I was on drugs.
I wouldn't hold our son when he cried.
I went out to bars & clubs all the time. {I went out one time in almost a year}
I was a good mom only when it was convenient for me.
But the worst.....he was asking for full custody of our son.

Met a guy.
We worked for the same company.
My boss was cupid.
He didn't really seem my type, but he was nice.
We went out on a date. I liked him.
We started dating in June. And by the end of July, I found out I was pregnant.
Bitter sweet really.
That's the best word to describe it.
I mean, I barely knew the guy. Enough to think I was in love. But that's it.

Lucky for me, he was happy. Excited even.
He was 31 years old. So, his life was ready for it.

We bought a house in October.
Then, in November, got news of a job offer, from a friend that had just moved to Texas.
We took the offer.
{{This is when someone in my life should have handcuffed me to the house}}

We packed up & loaded the cars.
Me & my belly in the jeep, pulling the boat. And him in his truck with Cheeks {our dog}.

The song "Home" by Michael Buble' came on the radio for the first time. {hint #1}

12 hours later we made it to Longview, Texas, and hit the bed at a friend's house.

The next morning, we went to see our house, for the first time.
I hated it.
I cried. {hint #2}

But, I made the best of it.
It was too late now. {so I thought}

I got a part time job @ Sears in the jewelry department. {I still get anxious when I walk by that counter}
The job sucked, but I'm not one to stay at home.
I've worked since the day I turned 16.
I have to work.

A few months went by.
Times were weird.
I didn't feel comfortable.
I wasn't happy.
I missed home.
I missed being around people who really knew me, and that who I really cared about.
Making friends was easy, but it just wasn't the same.

March 23, 2006, @ 4:22 pm, my son, Brady James was born.
I was 21 years old.

Times became tougher, we grew apart.
I loved my son. With all my heart.
And because I loved him, and wanted only the best for him, I decided it was time for me to be happy.

When Boo was 6 months old, I broke up with his father.
We had just bought a house, so the day he moved his stuff there, I moved my stuff to storage.
And stayed with a friend.

But moving day was all but what it's suppose to be.
I went back to the house to get the last item.
I was meeting him there, to use his truck.

There was a knock at the door.
It was a old man, with a star on his shirt.
He asked "Are you Christina Beeler?"
"Yes."
"Please sign here. You're being served."

When people ask me questions about my childhood, my first reaction is to smile.
The thought of my childhood makes me happy.
I feel warm. Lucky. Thankful.

I had the ultimate childhood.
Every house on the block had kids.
14 to be exact.
We were all friends.
And all of our parents were friends.
We had chain link fences dividing our yards, so it was easy to see when someone was outside playing.

In the summer, we were outside everyday.
All day.
3 of the houses had pools.
If someone wasn't outside, they must have been sick.

In the winter. we suited up & went sledding down each others hills all day.
Sometimes we'd walk across the neighborhood and go down steepest hill we could find.

Int he fall, it was jumping in leaf piles.
These weren't your normal leaf piles.
They were HUGE.
The 15 minutes of raking was always worth the 20 seconds of jumping into them.

My parents were married.
Dad worked hard & mom stayed home.
As kids, we never had any burdens.
We had no worries.
Our parents were the best parents.

Years went by.
We moved to a different neighborhood.
Things changed of course.
Time weren't picture perfect anymore.
But what is when you're a teenager.
But I will always be thankful for the careless years that were given to me.
I just hope I can do the same for my children.
Or atleast try.

Well, I didn't find them, they found me! Which puts them even higher on my list!

The first thing I did was click on the "printable coupons" tab. This is where I find my most valuable coupons. The ones I use the most too. So what's the first thing I see.... Target Coupons !! JUST what I've been looking for.
I've found myself @ that beautiful place a lot lately, so having these coupons handy, in case I need something while I'm there, really makes me happy! (:

10 years ago today, the world lost an amazing person.

One of the best men I have ever known.

The brother I never had.

"I Can Only Imagine" was John's favorite song.
The words are engraved on his headstone.

You are missed by so many.

But we know you are walking by His side.

Just like your song says.

**John Robert Davison passed away November 22, 2001 of meningitis {a bacterial infection}.

It was so unexpected. Within 24 hours of catching the infection, he was gone.

It was a Thanksgiving none of us will ever forget.

If you have a son or daughter going into college, & their school doesn't have a meningitis vaccine policy, I strongly urge you to have them get the shot.
They can catch the infection just through saliva: sharing a drink, cigarette, etc.

Patience

Yesterday was somewhat of a "test" day for me.

I swear, everywhere I went, I was forced to be patient.
I'm not good with patience. Never have been.
Except with Brady. I'm the most patient person in the world when it comes to him.
There's probably a reason for that.

Back to yesterday.
The morning, I was running late, as usual.
I hate that. I have never been a late person.
I'm always on time. Or early!

But, since Emma came along, and Brady started going to school 20 minutes away, life in the mornings have gotten a little hectic.
I hate rushing. I hate being late. Maybe I need to do something about this.

So, the morning was crazy.
I needed to find patience.
I did, but it didn't last long.

Everyone decided to drive slow.
I guess no one was going to work.
Or they just weren't in a hurry.
OR, maybe I just needed to slow down....
yup, probably that one.

Then, on my lunch break, I had a million things to do.
That came as no surprise.
I rarely stop & eat for lunch.
I never have chance in the evenings to do my errands, so lunch is my time.

First stop, Michael's.
I ran out of sealant for my coasters, & had a hand full of orders that needed to be sealed.
I ran into Michael's {after grandma took her sweet time parking, of course}
grabbed the sealant & went straight to the check out.
2 lines.
3 in one line, 2 in the other.
Which one do I choose?
The one with 2 people.
OK, 1 down, 1 to go.
She scans everything quickly.
OK, whew. Yes. Let's get this going.
The lady hands the cashier her coupon.
Nope, the coupon is for Sunday only.
So what does the lady in front of me do, she wants to go through the bag of beads & pick out the ones she doesn't want!
Oh boy. So, I stand there, telling myself to be cool. It's OK.
I'm sure this will happen to me someday. {Yeah...sure}
The nice cashier decides to accept the coupon.
OK, that's great. Good for you. now, HURRY.
She scans the coupon. Says the total.
The lady in front of me pulls out her wad of cash, and counts.
Nope, she doesn't have enough.
She has to now to BACK to the bag & figure out, again, what she doesn't want.
I laugh in my head.
Then I look over, open register!
I hop on over to the other side, trying not to look like I was upset.
Check out, & off I go.

Next stop, Hobby Lobby.
I leave the Michael's parking lot, to find myself behind the slowest man on earth.
He takes his time pulling onto the 50 mph street.
I wait for him to get out, then I go, a little faster, around him.
He gives me a look. oops.
But I gave him time, I swear.

Now, going into Hobby Lobby these days, I am well aware of the mob of women that will be inside.
I prepare myself.
I run in, straight to the back to get my felt circle stickers for the coasters, I also ran out of.
Yup, of course, they're all gone!
I go over to the desk where they do the frames, & stand. I see the worker helping an older woman with the calligraphy pens. OK, this is fine. I have a few minutes to spare.
I stand, waiting.
Listening to the woman ask a million questions about calligraphy pens.
AND THEN, she needs help with paper.
I start to get real impatient.
Then, it hits me.
This is my gift He's giving me today.
He's trying to give me patience, and I won't take it.
I say a little prayer. Give Him thanks.
And then, poof, I'm calm. And smiling.
And happy to wait.

I ask the lady about the felt stickers.
They have none left, but she's putting in the order today.
I tell her to order a few extras, because I will be back to get them.
She smiles, I smile. And I'm off to go find packaging tape.
Yup, you guessed it, out of that too.
haha This never happens, but it did.
And I'm OK with it.
I realize how lucky I am to have found something I can make, and have people buy it. And love it.

So, my lesson for the day:

Best Friend.

I have a best friend.
She goes by the name of Aley.

She is my best friend; not because we get along.
Not because we have a lot of things in common.
And not because we have fun together.

She's my best friend because she knows me more than I know myself.
It's funny how you find yourself, explaining yourself to people. Constantly.

I feel relief when she's around.
I don't have to talk about why I feel a certain way. Ever.
I tell her how I'm feeling. And that's that.
She responds. And suddenly,we're a little closer than before.

I've never ever had this. Not with anyone.

I know I am lucky. I have someone I can call my best friend, and really mean it.
She is the BEST kind of friend someone could have.

Saturday was Emma's first birthday & party!
I know everyone says this, but geeze, I cannot believe Emma is already a year old!
I actually love the fact that she's getting older.
I enjoy watching my babes grow up.
It's exciting to see them become their own person.

Cake Pop Stand Tutorial

The best part about the whole thing, my mom & sister came down from Missouri. (: I love their visits. There's nothing like family.

Cake Pop Stand {DIY}

I decided to make my own cake pop stand for Emma's first birthday party.

Here's how I did it...

I went to Hobby Lobby & bought 3 different size foam circles.
Take a look @ the prices
See that one foam circle for $2.99??
Now, notice the two foam circles from the Dollar Tree...for $1! {same size}
YES....the $2.99 circle has been returned. (: I still ♥ you Hobby Lobby.

OK, let's get back to this thing.

So, unwrap all foam circles you want to use.

1} Cut 2 toothpicks in half, and insert them into the large foam circle. Be sure not to push all the way through.
2} Do this same step for the small circle.
3} Center the medium circle over the large circle, & push together.
Do this same step for the small circle into the medium circle.
4} Take the foam stand outside, or in a ventilated area, and spray the stand with your choice of spray paint color.

I chose this ballet slipper {pink} spray paint.
It wasn't dark enough, so I sprayed a top layer with Watermelon {pink}.
I also added a coat of glitter spray paint.

And there you go!

Last week at work, our plotter {humongous printer} was getting fixed.

We needed to do a test print, so I offered one of my favorite pictures as the tester.

And I got to keep it.

So...what does a mama do with this ginormous picture of her babes??!

and with this just laying around. (really!!)

DUH!!

Obviously, I'm not quite finished.

But I have the best friends reception in ONE day, & Emma's birthday party in TWO days, so this project will have to wait.

P.S. I may just add some paint for the edges, but if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them!!

I taught my son how to count to 10 in spanish the same time he was learning it in English.
It was really just for fun. To see if he could do it.
He could.
And he still can.

Why not??
Especially now that America is becoming more & more diverse, it can't hurt.
If anything, he atleast will pass Spanish 101 in school! (:

I believe this makes him smarter, it keeps his brain working.
If your child already knows one thing, such as the ABC's, 123's, or colors, why not go to the next step & teach that in a different language?
The internet is right there @ our fingertips.
Google it. Then teach your kiddos.
Be an over achiever!

Taco Soup {Recipe}

Who loves Taco night??!

I DO I DO!

I have added a little spin to taco night.

I call it Taco Soup. (:

And it's AH-MA-ZING.

You won't believe how easy peasy it is to make!

What you will need:

1 1/2 lb hamburger {I use turkey for a healthier spin}

1 can corn {drain}

1 can kidney beans {drain}

1 can pinto beans {drain}

1 can rotel

1 small can tomato paste

1 can diced tomatoes

1 pkg taco seasoning

1 pkg dry ranch dressing

1 box beef broth

1 can beef broth

Shredded cheese {your choice}

Fritos {optional}

What you do:

Brown meat, drain
While the meat is cooking, mix all the rest of the ingredients into a big pot. Stir occasionally over medium heat.
Add the cooked meat.
Simmer for one hour.

Once the soup is well mixed, pour into your bowl.
Add fritos & top with shredded cheese

P.S. This makes great left overs!! I ate it for lunch 2 days in a row!

My mom taught me to encourage my kids to give compliments.
Whatever you teach them, they will do it.
So, while my son was first learning how to talk, I always taught him to tell me that I was pretty, or smart, or beautiful, or anything that would be positive.
He's 5 now & he calls me beautiful all the time.
He calls family members beautiful or handsome (depending on who it is!)
And he even calls himself handsome.
Manners have come out of this, and just maybe, this will teach him great self-esteem.
Atleast he knows that his mama thinks he's handsome!

Teething Tip

Emma has been teething pretty bad lately, and I just KNEW I could find something Pinterest to help with the pain.
I just typed in the search bar "teething." To my amazement, there were way more tips & tricks than I expected. SWEET.

I went through a few of them, but landed on this one.

Easy. And to Emma's liking I'm sure!

I took some apple juice

and poured it into the ice cube tray.
{Found this @ the Dollar Tree}

Let it set for atleast an hour.
Then I took her mesh thing {sorry, don't know the proper name!}
And shoved the apple juice ice cube in!

Notice the red, tired eyes from crying. :(
This helped. A lot.
I use it everyday now.

Hi, I'm Lauren!
I have a wonderful hubby who is super supportive and a 2 year old daughter who is my world. I learned to crochet when I was about 18 years old {about 10 years ago} and concentrated on making blankets, although not very often. I made some crochet gifts but didn't really get into it until I was pregnant with my daughter. I made her a couple of blankets and once she was born I was either too busy to crochet or too tired! Once the baby phase was over I thought I'd get right back into it only to find that a crawling, then walking, then running child was not going to let me be still for one moment! Now that she is older and takes one nice long nap, I have time to crochet again! Yay! I set up an Etsy shop and stepped out of my crocheting comfort zone of making blankets and started trying out hat patterns. Well, what do you know, I love making them! Now I get to share them with others, which makes me so happy! I mean, how many hats can one toddler have? I had to spread the wealth! Crocheting isn't something I can just stop doing when I am done making things for Bug, myself, or as gifts. I need to have a hook & yarn in my hands. I have a need to create and now that I am an experienced crocheter I just want to try a million different things! I have a pretty long list of new patterns to try so my shop will always be changing and growing.

I also created a blog some time ago. I wasn't exactly sure what was going to come of it at first, but as I took time to think about what I enjoy and have passion for, I found my niche! I have a degree in education so I knew I wanted to share some teaching through play ideas. I concentrate on toddler activities since Bug is 2. As she grows the activities will change. I also have been cooking Bug's food myself since she started eating. There are so many benefits to this & I love sharing child friendly recipes that I make or see around. Crafting is something I do on my spare time so I also have some tutorials here and there. I love blogging and am so happy I can share the things I love with everyone.

Folding Fitted Sheets!

Once in a while,
I feel like reminiscing.
And I love the feelings I get.
I feel happy.
sad.
warm.
giddy.
But most of all,
loved.

I recently went through my photo album I call "He calls me his Babygirl"
It's a montage of old pictures of Brady & I.
When it was just him & I.

Don't get me wrong,
I love our life now.
But I will never forget the time I really got to know my son.
And he got to know me.

Sunday, Brady & I headed over to The Childrens Place to check out their sales.

I love that place.

They always have sales.

If they aren't having a sale, they are having some sort of promotion.

I couldn't tell you when the last time I paid full price for an item from there!

Anywho,

We went into their store here in Longview, & saw some great things.

But of course, the first thing I see, on the front table, is a little boys argyle sweater.

My heart skipped a beat.

I am a bit obsessed with the argyle design.

And Emma's crib set is all argyle.

So, as I was saying...

I heart argyle.

And to picture my Boo in this, I just HAD to get it.

No matter the price! {and you don't hear that from me often}

So I shift through the different colors & sizes.

NOPE.

Of course not.

They don't have his size!!!

GASP!!

And then a little angel comes behind me & says...

"If we don't have the size you're looking for, I can give you a free shipping coupon you can use online" !!!!!

And this is why The Children's Place is my number one go to childrens clothing store now.

Just because of a little coupon.

That's it.

And I feel this way because that shows me how much they appreciate their customers.

Wood Halloween Sign {DIY}

I was so excited to do this next project.

Why you ask??

Because I knew it would be SUPER cheap!

I spent a total of $3 on it!

You will need:

I got all of the supplies from Hobby Lobby

Paper .49/ea before 50% off discount {sale}

Wood letters .99/ea before 50% off discount {sale}

Wood blocks 2 for $1 before 50% off discount {sale}

I didn't even have to use my coupon!

Cut each piece of paper to fit the top of the wood

& paint the outside edges with black craft paint {already had}

While those dried, I painted the letter with white craft paint{already had}

Once the blocks were dry, I used Mod Podge and glued the paper on them.

After those were dry {just a few minutes} I glued the letters to each of the wooden blocks with my hot glue gun

And that's it!

I set them here for now.

It works.

But I may hang them up by using this idea I found on Pinterest, since they don't already come with holes for hanging.
